I like to play around with different layers set to different 'blend modes' in Photoshop. Slowly I start to understand and predict the behavior of certain blend modes, but often there is an element of surprise. The acquired experience is a plus, but also a drawback. I am less likely to step off the track, to come up with something truly surprising. It is always the balance. Learn new stuff, get experienced with it and insert more new stuff. Combining the blend modes with 'layer adjustments', like curves, has opened up a vast space in front of me. So lots of unexpected results again. New adventure.
