I like to play around with different layers set to different 'blend modes' in Photoshop. Slowly I start to understand and predict the behavior of certain blend modes, but often there is an element of surprise. The acquired experience is a plus, but also a drawback. I am less likely to step off the track, to come up with something truly surprising. It is important to find a balance, but go wild as often as you like. Learn new stuff, get experienced with it and insert more new stuff. Combining the blend modes with 'layer adjustments', like curves, has opened up a vast space for me. So lots of unexpected results again. New adventures.
